It’s really starting to be cold(er) here… but hey, it’s September after all 🙂
After finishing with these —> TOP KNOT HATS <— for friends, I’m preparing some lightweight hats for my boys and thought I’d share a pattern with you. They come together quickly and they require a minimal amount of fabric. To make one you really only need some good size fabric scraps. The pattern comes in sizes NB – 12 months.
What you’ll need
• Fabric: this pattern was intended for use with knits. Fabric with a slight stretch is preferred (jersey, interlock, sweat…). 20 cm / 8 inches
• 9 cm (4 inch) rib knit for the band (the main fabric works just as fine if you don’t have the rib knit)
• Coordinating thread
• Scissors / Rotary cutter
• Sewing machine or serger

Print the pattern and cut the right size according to the size guide. Make sure »Scaling« is not checked. Print at 100% Scale or Actual Size. Do not »fit to page«. Measure the test square to make sure it printed accurately. Match up the square images on the edges of pages and tape the pages together.
Cut your pieces. Two top hat pieces and one bottom.
Fold top hat pieces on half, right sides together. Sew both pieces along angled edge.
Place the main hat pieces right sides together and sew all around. Leave the bottom straight edge open.
Sew the side seam of bottom piece, right sides together.
Place the bottom piece on the outside of hat, right sides together, pin together and sew all around the bottom.
There you go, you’ve sewn a hat!
